Project Outline: The O2 blueroom is a stylish bar area within theO2 arena complex open exclusively for O2 customers. Online AV was first approached by Sledge in July 2006 to consult on this ambitious project - to create a 45m video landscape for this unique space.
After exploring a number of different options, high - powered projection was eventually chosen as the preferred option and Online AV was commissioned by Sledge to design and install the complete system.
The 45m - projection landscape runs the entire length of the O2 blueroom and is possible thanks to the use of 5 BARCO SLM R12+ 12,000 lumen DLP projectors.
The projection surface itself is curved in both its horizontal and vertical plane, requiring specialist geometry correction processing , a challenge also successfully met by Online AV.
The video content for such a wide aspect ratio screen was specially commissioned by O2 over a number of themes. All video content is played back through a bespoke multi-channel hard drive playback system due to the extremely high - resolution imagery involved. Blueroom guests have the opportunity to change the theme of the projection landscape by text message. The O2 blueroom also includes a full house p.a. system for high - level background music, where guests can select songs , also by text message.
Part of the original brief was to use the area for meetings and events, hence the capability to display laptop inputs on the projection landscape was also important. To achieve this, a number of connection points were installed within the O2 blueroom where laptops can be connected into the system and displayed as floating video windows within the projection landscape. The position and size of these video windows can also be adjusted to provide flexibility for a wide range of events.
The whole system is operated by the in - house bar staff, via full colour touch screen panels allowing control over the projection landscape, plasma screens and audio systems. The whole system can be accessed securely via remote I nternet connectivity, allowing new video content to be added to the system off site, along with event notifications such as warnings of projector lamps coming to the end of their lives to ensure maximum system reliability.
